The first visit by an Israeli Prime Minister in 25 years after Ariel Sharon, the 130-member delegation arriving today led by Benjamin Netanyahu promises to be a power packed one. Netanyahu’s India visit is six months after his counterpart Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel where the latter was accorded a warm, memorable reception. Modi’s visit to Israel was also the first by an Indian Prime Minister to the Jewish nation.
On Netanyahu’s agenda is a flurry of activities- from visiting the monumental Taj Mahal to getting a taste of popular Bollywood and a power breakfast with India Inc. Netanyahu’s delegation is drawn from sectors like cyber, agriculture and defence.
Upon his arrival, Netanyahu will be given a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. The welcome would be followed by wreath laying ceremony at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial. Later in the day, Netanyahu is scheduled to call on India’s external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and also President Ram Nath Kovind.
During the course of the Israeli Prime Minister’s six-day state visit, both sides would sign agreements and issue a joint press statement. On Tuesday, Netanyahu accompanies by his wife, would leave for Agra to see Taj Mahal. On the same day, he will visit Delhi to participate at the Raisina Dialogue where he would deliver the keynote inaugural address.
On the fourth day of his India tour, Netanyahu is scheduled to leave for Ahmedabad to visit the Sabarmati Ashram. The dignitary would also attend an event at the International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology (iCreate).
Then, ona Thursday, Netanyahu would head for Mumbai to have a breakfast meeting with Indian CEOs and attend a business seminar. He will also reach out to Bollywood personalities in an exclusive ‘Shalom Bollywood’ event that aims at exploring business opportunities for Indian filmmakers in Israel.
